After selling NY business, Syracuse marijuana entrepreneurs go national

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse-based medical marijuana company NYCanna is no longer locally owned. Acreage Holdings, of New York City, bought the business in August.

But Syracuse executives involved in launching the company are still active in the marijuana business elsewhere.

The entrepreneurs who founded NYCanna are trying to start similar businesses in other states. And a Syracuse public TV executive who invested in NYCanna has moved on to oversee Acreage Holdings’ marijuana operations nationwide.

Robert Daino, who led Syracuse public broadcaster WCNY for 13 years as president and CEO, has taken a job as chief operating officer at Acreage Holdings. The company owns marijuana businesses in 14 states.
