A historic day in Wareham: People dont mind rain to buy marijuana

WAREHAM — Judson Rice was determined to be first.

Patrons hoping to purchase recreational marijuana at Verilife’s grand opening Friday were told to park at the Water Wizz parking lot, which opened at 8 a.m. Rice arrived at 6:30 a.m.

Knowing the gates were closed, he improvised by negotiating with the Silver Lake Motel to pay for a spot in their lot.

About four hours later, the 43-year-old walked out of Verilife as the first person to purchase recreational marijuana in his hometown of Wareham.

“It’s a wonderful thing,” Rice said. “I had a positive experience.”

Cars began rolling into the Water Wizz parking lot promptly at 8 a.m. Security guard dressed in neon yellow vests guided motorists to spots to utilize the every inch. Toward the back of the lot, two food trucks fired up their engines in preparation for a busy day.
