The Lead

Momentum is growing for the United States, Canada and Mexico to resolve the steel and aluminum tariff dispute, according to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

Mnuchin told a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee Wednesday a deal to lift the tariffs, imposed by President Donald Trump under national security considerations, is “close.”

However Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland wouldn’t speculate on the timeline for lifting the tariffs.
