Pot shop proposed in Abington

Green Harbor Dispensary of Braintree is considering a retail cannabis shop on Bedford Street.

ABINGTON — Green Harbor Dispensary, a Braintree-based company, is exploring the possibility of a retail cannabis store in Abington.

Town Manager Richard LaFond said the company’s proposal could not yet be released in full, but said the business has proposed opening a shop at 1410 Bedford St., on Route 18, near the Weymouth town line.

It is the first proposal for a legal marijuana business in Abington, LaFond said. Green Harbor has proposed other cannabis businesses and cultivation facilities in Middleboro and Provincetown.

Nick Patel, Green Harbor’s manager, said the company was interested in opening a retail marijuana business on the South Shore, because he and some of the other members of the company are from the area, and Abington is one of the few South Shore towns that has not banned marijuana.
