Park Ridge Decides To Opt Out On Cannabis Sales For Now

Park Ridge aldermen reached a general conclusion Monday night (Aug. 12) that just because the state of Illinois has made it possible for legal sales of recreational cannabis to start in 2020, their city needs a little more time to see the pros and cons of the program.

They asked City Attorney Adam Simon from Ancel, Glink to prepare draft legislation for an “opt out” decision.

He will also prepare accompanying statutes to provide protection in the city ordinances. Those can relate to zoning, business licensing, overlay districts to further restrict business locations, etc.

These are expected for the September Procedures and Regulations City of the Whole meeting, and could advance to the final council vote by October.
